LINCOLN — The Nebraska men’s basketball team will play four exhibition games during an eight-day trip to the Bahamas in August, NU announced Monday.

The Huskers will leave for the Caribbean on Aug. 13 after conducting 10 practices in Lincoln, starting next Monday. Coach Doc Sadler’s fifth NU team will travel with 13 players, including junior newcomer Caleb Walker.

Walker, a junior-college All-America guard at Butler (Kan.) Community College last season, benefits from a new NCAA rule that allows incoming student-athletes who have completed three credit hours to participate in a foreign trip.

Junior guard Toney McCray, out last season after undergoing elbow surgery, has been cleared to play on the trip. So has center Christopher Niemann (knee surgery).

The Huskers finished 15-18 in 2009-10 and last in the Big 12.

“The trip comes at a great time,” Sadler said in a statement. “Everyone knows there’s a lot of room for this team to improve over the summer, and I think this trip will help that process.”

Nebraska last traveled overseas in the offseason in 2004 to Australia.

NU will play games against Y Cares Wreckers/Hardcore Development, Commonwealth Giants, All Stars/Hardcore and Cybots. Dates and times have not been determined.

The Huskers return to Lincoln on Aug. 21, two days before the start of the fall semester.

Others traveling include Lance Jeter, Jorge Brian Diaz, Brandon Richardson, Brandon Ubel, Christian Standhardinger, Ray Gallegos, Eshaunte Jones, Drake Beranek, Matt Karn and Mike Fox.
