LINCOLN -- The Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission voted 5-1 Friday to prohibit Omaha firefighters from continuing a long fund-raising tradition.
The state panel said an Omaha City Council ordinance that bans "filling the boot" -- where firefighters have collected money to fight muscular dystrophy -- was consistent with state law barring the use of public resources for private gain.
