This is Rye, Paige and I last summer. We had just gone swimming. And the kids both fell asleep shortly after this picture.

To Grandma's house we go

My babies come home today!

They've been with their grandparents, out of town, since Friday. I called. Everyone seemed to be doing well.

Except me.

I'm not a mess, by any means. But I miss those little ones! It's hard to go from doing everything for them day in and day out to not even seeing them. For nearly FIVE days.

I'm so excited to hold my little girl, who on Thursday will be nine months old (holy cow). I can't wait to see her attack those stairs and go and go and go, exploring, learning.

I'm anxious to hear my little boy, who is 4 1/2, tell me about his day, show me what he made at preschool and cuddle with him at bedtime.

I can't wait to hear them both laugh.

There is nothing better than my children's laughter. Nothing.

I've tried to think of the time without them as a break, and it was. It was really nice. But there's always something missing. I can never be completely comfortable, absolutely relaxed, without them near.

Am I lucky to have grandparents who want to be involved in my children's lives? Absolutely.

Do I need to work on convincing myself that I don't always need to be in control? Probably.

But am I thrilled to get them back tonight?

Yes.

How do you handle time away from the kids? Do they have weekend trips to Grandma's? What do you do while they're gone?

I had tears in my eyes when I finally went to sleep last night because I made our 2-yr-old sleep in his own bed! Needless to say, I'd be a total basketcase if he were to spend the night at someone else's house. I have no problem when he's over at "Ga & Papa's" house, sometimes I send him over there just so I can have a little time to veg out and be alone (terrible, aren't I?), but anything more than 8 hours and I start to get a little crazy because I don't hear him talking to himself, singing, playing with the dogs, or hollering at me because he has to go potty :)
