Boredom Busters

Oobleck!

Playing with "ooblek" can be a fascinating sensory experience for children.

This easy-to-make substance changes from a solid to a liquid in the warmth of your hand.

What you need:

1 box (1 lb.) cornstarch
1-1/2 cups cold water
1 tablespoon food coloring (optional)

What you do:

Mix the cornstarch, water and food coloring in a container with your hands until it is smooth.

Pour the substance into a large tray or low-sided bowl.

Let your child explore this intriguing substance! It is soft and yielding like liquid when picked up and touched gently and hard and crumbly when squeezed or pounded.
